STOKE CITY COUNCIL INVOLVED WITH SUCCESSFUL INTERREG IVC PROJECT
An Interreg IVc project on implementing the Europe 2020 strategy at a local level, in which Stoke City Council is a leading partner, has been awarded funding from the European Union. The project, which is led by the the Sormland region of Sweden, looks at ways to implement the Lisbon Strategy at a local level.
The aim of the project is to learn from the Sormland experience and to link monitoring processes to political decision-making. The results of the monitoring will be intergrated into the ongoing and future budget and policy decisions of each participating municipality or region. The project also aims to revitalise the implementation of the Europe 2020 Strategy at the local and regional level and to promote the EU's commitment to a more integrated and sustainable EU strategy.
Given the shift from the rather "hard" economic priorities (increase GDP, enterprise...) to more sustainable, low carbon oriented targets, the project consortium decided to focus on the performance of the Europe 2020 Strategy's in the field of energy and sustainable transport. The project will therefore provide instruments and strategies for further development of policies related to energy and sustainable transport.
